Two more make their impact on History

The title reads like a news headline. Perhaps it stirs your thoughts about some famous or valiant persons to whom I must be referring who performed some heroic or memorable deed. Not necessarily; not YET, anyway.

Have you ever paused to reflect on your own personal influence in the world and upon history? The two I am referring to are simply Julia Claire Gevers and Jayken Lynwood Porch, the most recent additions to our church family. Already they have exerted their influence in God's space-time reality. And you have too, probably for years. What would the world be like if you were never born? How would history be different if you weren't here? Just consider what consequences one, simple action has on others. If you are reading this newsletter, I am having an influence on you even if it is only by small gradations, for if you weren't reading this newsletter right now, you'd be doing something else. It is, admittedly, difficult to ponder the cumulative weight of all our actions, both big and small. And it is even more incomprehensible to contemplate God's providential wisdom in all of the details of history over which He is completely sovereign. We can only gasp in wonder at God with the Apostle Paul--"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable [are] His judgments and His ways past finding out!"--Romans 11:33

The Gevers and my family have no doubt of the influence that Julia and Jayken have had on us already and will continue to have on us as the years pass. Only God knows who else they will encounter, and thus, alter when they meet in this life. And we ask and trust God to direct their paths and make Himself known to them that they may be saved and be pleasing in His sight. To be sure, I named all of my children with the hope that they would live up to their names (Jayken, pronounced Yah-KEEN in Hebrew, means "the LORD establishes"). Please continue to pray for our children and their kingdom influence in this world.

On behalf of the Gevers and my family, thanks to our church family who have prayed, brought meals, visited, and rejoiced with us as we celebrate the births of Julia and Jayken. We have been blessed!

Walk circumspectly,

David

Testimonies for Jake and Ali Ham

Becoming a member at New Covenant Baptist Church is not exactly the same as it is at other churches. After expressing interest in membership, one of the elders will invite you over to dinner to fellowship and to discuss our Statement of Faith and our Church Covenant. After that, if you aren't scared off, we meet together as an elder body with someone desiring membership and we once again discuss our Statement of Faith and make certain that new members understand what is required of us in the church covenant. Finally, the elders recommend candidates to the congregation, and there the members to be give their testimony by word, by video, or through writing.

Jake and Ali have met with us, and the elders will be glad to recommend them as new members of our fellowship this Sunday. I hope that you will enjoy reading their testimonies here, and please pray for them as they integrate into our church family. May their ministry and time here be richly blessed of the Lord!

Jake:

I was very fortunate to grow up in a Christian home, and most all of you know my parents (Brad and Cindy Ham). I was blessed with a community around me consisting of friends and family that always pointed me toward Christ. Many of those people are members of New Covenant today. When I was 10 years old I began to understand sin and that all have sinned and I certainly was not an exception. While I had a trivial knowledge of Jesus and his love for me, I had not yet developed any type of relationship with Christ and did not realize my need for a savior. One afternoon while at home with my parents, we began to talk about sin. We discussed how Christ lived and died to cover my sins and that if I confess Christ as lord and believed in his life and resurrection I would be saved. It was then that I prayed to receive Christ and God saved me. Since coming to know Christ I have always had a sense of comfort knowing my home is not here, but in heaven. While here on earth my purpose is to know him and make him known. Galations 2:20 says it best  “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Ali:

Both of my parents grew up in a Presbyterian church, so I was baptized as a baby. My family lived in Florida until I was four. While living there, we were regular church attenders. I grew up knowing about God and how much he loved me, but I didn't understand my daily need for him. Once we moved to Georgia, we "church shopped" and never committed to one church. My brother and I both played travel soccer, which conflicted with Sunday morning church services. From 5th to 8th grade, my spiritual life was severely lacking, if not non-existent. I remember wondering about where I would spend eternity and hoping I could get to heaven, but that was the extent of it. In 9th grade I started attending FCA at my high school. Hearing the gospel here is when I truly understood that I was a sinner and in desperate need of a savior. There wasn't anything I could do to get to heaven - Jesus had done it for me. The two teachers that lead our school's FCA had an eternal impact of my life and I'm so thankful the Lord led me there. They are the reason I became a teacher myself, in hopes of somehow making that same impact on another child's life. My walk has had plenty of ups and downs, but I'm thankful to be a child of God and a daily recipient of His grace.

See you this Sunday!

Yours in Christ,

Bro. Brad
